Cale had never been one for romancing. Cale had also never been one to be in what anyone would consider a “real relationship.” He’d also been a bit of a drifter, doing as he pleased with whomever he pleased no matter the cost at the end since he preferred not to think about the future but rather about the now. He had a difficult time sometimes to remind himself that his actions could damage something bad enough to alter the future drastically. But he’d never really looked at himself as someone who had to worry about that. He wasn’t much of a key player in the world, yeah? So what in the fuck had he to lose back then? Back then was the important word to look at there. Cale had nothing to lose back then (or so he had conditioned himself to believe). Nowadays, he supposed he had a little more to keep himself concerned with. And romancing seemed to be one of them and good shit… he was absolutely atrocious at saying sweet things and finding the absolute best thing he liked about a person right on the spot. He wasn’t fond of flailing the money he had around either to make anyone happy. So what in the hell was wrong with those god damn feelings of his making him go after some girl who happened to be the same spoiled brat he’d harassed in high school? A true fuck your life moment, maybe?
No, things weren’t all as bad as Cale could twist them up to be. He was quite good at being more dramatic than necessary when it came to sorting through his emotions but for the time he was trying to keep them under a careful watch. His situation was baffling, yes, but it wasn’t as bad as it had ever been. So he’d come to terms with his feelings? So he’d finally managed to just take a dive at letting a little bit of that hard shell of his to wear away for one person? What was the worst that could happen aside from being completely turned down and heartbroken? It sounded like a wonderful opportunity… this relationship stuff. Now he was understanding why he’d never fully considered a relationship with another human being before. Humans were dangerous as hell.
By the time that Cale had managed to get off the freeway and onto the twisting course to his home town he had completely nibbled off the excess nail on his right numb. The thoughts popping into his head every now and then had that effect on him and he was trying to learn that beating the shit out of something when you were stressed wasn’t the answer to everything unless something soft and not alive was near. Besides, he wasn’t really in a mad stressed kind of state. More like a what the fuck did he get himself into kind of thing. It was uncertainty, yes, that was the word. He was uncertain of all of this and uncertain of why he was slightly relieved. He’d never expected his life to take this twist. He’d always thought that he left that girl and this town far behind. He’d thought he wouldn’t have to turn back to it. Yet here he was. And his nail was once again getting furiously chewed on.
The town was quiet just like it always had been in the dead of night. The moon was full, lighting up the streets and casting dark shadows where there were trees and buildings. Cale didn’t need any kind of direction from here though. His memory guided him with complete ease, almost in autopilot. He didn’t have to think about what way was what house here. If he continued straight on he’d get to his mother. If he turned onto the main road he’d get to the newer bit of houses. Of course, he wasn’t going to any of those places. Sure, his mom probably needed the visit but she was dead asleep by now. Cat would more than likely be as well at two in the morning but he was really good at annoying her and wouldn’t fail her now on that.
Her home that her parents had purchased for her all those years ago was not difficult to find. It was big and obnoxious just like Cat. Oh, and completely out of place in a town like this. Yeah, that was Cat’s place in a nutshell. He pulled up into the drive and turned the ignition off. He didn’t take a moment to gather his thoughts. Instead he simply got out of the truck, lock the door, and skipped up to the front of the house. Immediately his finger pressed the doorbell. First he waited a moment. Then he decided to press it constantly… he’d go ahead and wait for her arrival now with a smug look on his face.
He’d always been good at driving her mad. TAGS, CATARINA WORDS, 827 NOTES, IT'S BEEN A WHILE SINCE I PLAYED HIM.. SONG, IRIS - GOO GOO DOLLS

Cat had just settled into her old home quite nicely. It was just as empty as it normally was, except now it seemed quieter, since there wasn't the bustling of Paris in the background. The talking and the passing-by of cars right outside her home still echoed in her ears, like an incessant ringing. However, it wasn't necessarily a bad noise. It was what she fell asleep to at night and woke up to in the morning. It actually made her feel not so lonely.
The reason she had come back to Kendrick was strictly because of her parents. Her father was always concerned about how she was faring in France. Her mother... not so much. Catarina had decided to give her father a surprise visit. He was so jubilant that he cooked an exquisite meal just for her. And how she could resist? He was a French chef, perhaps only second best in comparison to an Italian one. After she ate, she had vowed she would never eat again, and her father only laughed. It was an amusing day, especially since her mother wasn't there.
But now she was by herself, in a house that could hold an army of people. Cat didn't even have Prince to look after her; he was at home in Paris, being cat-sitted by her neighbor. He wouldn't have liked the plane anyways, and he wouldn't stand to be kept in a cage. He was quite the diva.
Catarina glided over to the desk in her bedroom, sitting there, vacant and unoccupied. Her laptop looked as though it hadn't been used in years (perhaps because it hadn't been). She dusted off the face of it, opened it, and then blew away the dust on the screen. Insomnia had struck her hard tonight, rendering her utterly restless. Perhaps because she was so uneasy in her new setting. The silence was certainly starting to drive her insane.
Not a second later than when she had opened the laptop did the doorbell ring. Immediately, Cat's eyes shot to the time at the bottom right of her screen. Two a.m. Who was here at two a.m.? Whoever it was must have wanted her urgently. The doorbell afflicted her with a volley of rings which made her quite frustrated.
Catarina slammed her laptop shut, but moved back to it to make sure she hadn't damaged it. Once her computer was assuredly safe, she bolted down the stairs to the den where her front door opened up to. With a scowl on her face, Cat twisted the knob and opened the door. When her eyes rested upon a familiar face, her visage turned into something a little more pleasant, though it was probably too late to redeem herself. She didn't want to seem irritated, but, honestly, who would come to someone in the dead of night and ring their doorbell like a madman? Oh, that's right... Cale would.
The frown on her features turned upwards in the slightest fashion at having Cale on her porch. It was a generous smile, as it was still past midnight and she hadn't been to sleep in almost twenty-four hours. "Well, isn't this a... nice surprise?" she said to him in a cynical tone. "Some stranger shows up at my door at two in the morning. That's classy." Of course, she was only joking, but if she knew anything about him, he would take it offensively.
On the other hand, he had seemed changed when she last met him. In Paris. He had really shocked her that day. They had agreed to treat each other more like human beings rather than chew toys. It was something Catarina never thought she would achieve in this lifetime.
However, whether he knew it or not, he had really made her happy when he did that. She may not have been the most grateful at the time, but she certainly was now. It had brightened up her life, made her feel like she wasn't just a pretty face. Though she was quite a handsome lady, wasn't she?
And, also, it was the first time in a long time that Cat had been or even thought about being in a relationship. If that's even what it was. She honestly couldn't recall anything of the same nature except for when she was with Ace. And, fuck, how long ago was that? That was back during her sophomore year, when she was an uncorrupted, innocent little girl! Catarina supposed that this "relationship" was all the more special, then, because she hadn't been with anyone since Ace.

After his index finger had grown weary of constantly jabbing at the doorbell, Cale gracefully switched over to punching it in lightly with his knuckles or the palm of his hand. He could quite clearly hear it sounding off from behind the door and was completely pleased by this. In the quiet of Kendrick it was hard not to hear such obtrusive sounds like a doorbell. Hell, he could hear the damn crickets and other insects scuttling around the dark yard when he’d been walking up to the door! Hah- Cat would have no trouble noticing him or, at least, the doorbell. She was also very hotheaded and thought herself mostly fearless. That meant she would be marching down to the door, determined to get to the bottom of who it was that dared come to her door at such a wretched hour. It was all the more reason to happy with himself and smiling like an idiot while he lazily switched his weight back and forth between his legs.
Soon enough the door had opened up and Cale slowly quite his attack of doorbell ringing, though he did make a point to click in the button a few more times while she gathered exactly what was going on and who was bothering her. He noted the at first subtle change in her expression, only raising his eyebrows up accusingly at her, almost daring her to go ahead and give him a piece of her mind. But, to his surprise, she did no such thing. She seemed to calm herself down in a very reasonable amount of time. Yeah, she seemed a bit bothered but Catarina always sounded semi pissed off to him. Either that or his presence just had that sort of effect on her. Either way, he kept on his smug grin and lifted his chin.
He rolled his eyes at her, shifting his weight to his left leg completely. “I’m a classy guy,” he assured her sarcastically. “Now let me in there or I’m gonna drag you outta that damn doorway.” His threats weren’t exactly empty but he had not come with intentions of being very physical about getting inside. Not to mention his voice still dripped with mockery.
Cale then made another show of shooting his eyebrows up at her. He tugged at the collar of his navy v-neck as he straightened himself up again. “Did I overdress?” he questioned, looking just slightly annoyed, like he didn’t get the memo or something. Then he offered her a smirk. “Not the first time I’ve seen you with your pants missing though.”
What had it been now? Oh shit, he wasn’t going to bother with trying to count all the way back to his high school days. He’d been there an extra year anyways and didn’t feel like figuring the math. Whatever the case, they’d been in high school and she had been stupid enough to cross paths with him. Hah- he’d showed her ass (literally almost). She’d thought that she’d be able to what… what was it she was doing again? Trying to seduce him or something? Get back at him for doing God knew what and she’d been ballsy enough to go into the boys locker room where he’d happily removed her bottoms when the gym teacher had gone looking to see what was happening in the showers. He was honestly surprised that he’d let her live that one down for so long. He supposed in between all of their bantering he’d lost track of all the shit they’d done to one another. In fact, quite the bunch of memories were coming back at him now beside the first time they’d actually met one another.
Cale heaved a heavy sigh at Catarina, making sure she kept up with him in the reality too. He was either going to go laze about in her house or mope back in his truck, standing here would not be an option unless she was standing out on the porch with him. Cale was always inventing new ways to annoy Catarina. Luckily, because of the very same person, she had learned to not lose her cool so easily. After all, she was fairly sure it was his intention to get her flustered. But would she give in to him like that? Certainly not.
He seemed very complacent with himself, something that made her a bit uncertain. Was there a reason he had such a sense of self-accomplishment? Was he playing some kind of prank on her? Cat had to be on her toes around him. He was always unpredictable, like a hurricane. However, as he wasn't attempting to grab her or drag her somewhere, she supposed she was safe (though she probably wouldn't have minded the grabbing and dragging either!).
"Classy, sure," Catarina mumbled under her breath, turning her head away from him. When he threatened her, her eyes returned, narrowing in defiance. Well, speaking of dragging her... she obviously knew him too well. "I would like to see you try." She didn't doubt that he would, but it was more of a tease than a challenge. What could she say? She missed the days when he was always pushing her around, though she didn't miss the insults and whatnot.
It wasn't until he said something about her attire that she noticed what she was wearing. She hadn't exactly expected company... Her attention diverted to look down at her long shirt and missing pants. Well, like he said, she had been without pants around him before. She wasn't one to be exactly ashamed of not wearing anything. Her stare turned back to him, though, giving him a wry grin. "Coming to my house, yes, you did overdress. You should know that," she told him in a scolding tone, as if she were disappointed in his lack of knowledge.
Talking about having no pants really made her reminisce about the times in high school. By far, her favorite memory had to be the locker room or perhaps when they went into that creepy old house. Of course, it wasn't funny back then, but it was plenty humorous now. In fact, she somewhat wanted it to be like that again. Always spontaneous and wild. Catarina didn't like the boring, run-of-the-mill sort of "fun." It seemed too scripted and cyclical. However, he was definitely an ass back then. He, most of the time, refused to even acknowledge her existence and she followed him like a lost puppy. She brought a lot of heartbreak upon herself that way, but if she hadn't, he wouldn't be here right now.
Cat leaned against the threshold now, her challenge still issued to Cale. If he wanted in her house, he was going to have to move her. It wasn't like she was very heavy or muscular. The same snide smirk that she had on previously still remained. It made her furrowed brows and narrowed eyes seem a little out of place.
Now it was the waiting game. Catarina had played it numerous times, but never really won it. How did one win the waiting game? Well, she supposed it was one-sided. And since she was usually the one barking out ultimatums, Cale would be the only winner. However, she didn't mind trying her own luck with him barking out the ultimatums.

Again Cale found that his brows were curving into a smooth arch from another statement that probably shouldn’t have been as surprising as it was from Cat. He should have known that she would be up for any kind of challenge no matter how late the hour and his threats never fell on deaf ears when it came to her. By now, he should have known better than to give them out so freely and thoughtlessly but he really couldn’t help it. It was buried deep in his personality and her presence only made it that much more prominent. And now he was left with the option of gladly going through with it or just plowing right on by her, declaring that he was actually not in the mood to drag her colossal ass around (but he already knew that the outcome of that could be a swift smack over the back of the head for being less than true to his word and gentlemen like).
Now that he thought of it he was surprised that he actually was putting some thought into all of this and apparently a few years of training yourself to think before you acted help. Now he just needed to work on the thinking before you spoke part of it. He went ahead and tried to hide the little spark of pride that he felt inside of himself.
“You think I won’t?” he grumbled to her, looking a bit more impatient now. He still hadn’t gotten his way, after all and he (like Catarina) was not fond of things not going his way when he so obviously had the power to change them. But a childish spark lit up his cool blue eyes and he inwardly accepted this challenge that he had so boldly placed out before her. “You’re probably gonna get pissed off,” he said, giving her a fair enough warning but no time to consider it. His right hand had already bolted out and his fingers had wrapped around her skinny, little wrist to hurry and get down to business.
Cale kept in mind that he didn’t want to be too horribly mean. It was two and the morning and the only reason he was on some kind of adrenaline high was because he was finally not sitting in a truck and he had finally reached his destination and he had finally gotten to fulfill his little surprise. Other than that he would much rather go cannonball himself onto a ridiculously perfect mattress and bury himself under a mountain of covers to call it a day. Things weren’t that easy though when you were tangled up in some kind of romance with Catarina Luxis though. She would much rather have him have to go through a little work to earn a spot somewhere in her fanciful, over sized mansion. She was just lucky he hadn’t dropped on her doorstep from sleep deprivation.
With the hold on her wrist, Cale gave a curt tug and jerked her forward over the threshold to join him outside. For a moment he let her simply stand there in his single handed grasp. Then he flashed her a very quick toothy grin. He supposed his drab past experiences with getting his ass kicked constantly had aided him in these sorts of things. He may not have had such a quick wit but he did have a decent set of reflexes to make up for it. With a nimble flick of his arm Cale pulled Catarina into himself and twisted her arm up behind her back. It wasn’t rough enough to actually hurt but he tried to keep it just tight enough to where she would not be able to escape it. She was always full of surprises though but he was aware that she wasn’t exactly one to go and work her muscles out too much.
As he held her there he peered down at her by the few inches that separated their heights. This time he didn’t really grin and instead gave her more of a cocky look of dominance, something he was sure that she would want to fight for. “I was considering the grass but thought I’d make a better cushion,” he told her with false worry. Finally, he smiled again but only because his intentions were not innocent ones. Instead of letting her go and hurry into the house, Cale kept his hold on her and backed up very swiftly over to where he claimed he was originally going to put her: the lawn.
Once his scuffed boots had gotten onto the lawn the determined man started to slowly sink to the ground, letting go of Cat’s arm and instead balanced her by the small of her back until she had been lowered flat to the grass. He pinned her then by her shoulders, keeping on his smug smile and continuing to keep pressure down on her shoulders. “Okay, now I’m happy.” TAGS, CATARINA WORDS, 828 NOTES, IF YOU WANT ME TO CHANGE ANYTHING THEN TELL ME SONG, IRIS - GOO GOO DOLLS

Catarina was almost expecting Cale to tackle her like some sort of linebacker or something, but surely he knew how fragile a delicate flower like her was! And if he did, well, Cat would have to fight back. That was the only option, right? It seemed like the correct thing to do, considering Catarina and him were always brawling for their spot on the hierarchy. Unless she intentionally let him drag her around. If she wasn't so fond of being manhandled, there would most likely be some violence or name-calling.
When Cale chimed in, Cat's eyes lazily fluttered up to him. Just that itself gave off the apathetic aura. She didn't doubt him one bit that he would jerk her around, but she wasn't going to just lay down and take it. What fun would there be in that?
Cat simply shook her head in reply at him, figuring she would seem somewhat more defiant if she kept her trap shut. And she would have less of a chance of saying something stupid. That tended to happen quite a bit around Cale, though her banter didn't stick to him as much as his afflicted her. That's what she assumed, anyways.
Her attention was piqued when he stated that she would be angry. Her? Pissed off? Never. However, she did get upset when he clenched her wrist. Wow. She really did have a short temper. But it was all in good justification. He was touching her and Catarina didn't like to be touched. Though people in Paris really didn't know what boundaries were...
Cat's face twisted, both in surprise and frustration. Her nose wrinkled in disdain at him, as if she were disapproving of his actions. However, her eyes said something different; they were brightened by a spark of mischief. A feeling that had become fairly foreign to her.
As she was pulled through the doorway, the same scowl remained on her face. His flashy smile didn't seem to render her features any different. Catarina was expecting him to do something else, something that would really get underneath her skin. He was normally professional at that.
Once Cale pulled her close to him, though, all signs of discomfort melted away. It was involuntary, really. Even with her arm twisted behind her back, she couldn't help but feel enticed by being so close to him. And she absolutely hated it. No matter how hard she tried, Catarina couldn't struggle against him. Her routine scowl also wouldn't make any appearances.
The grass? Even if it was her lawn, the grass would only get her dirty. It was a damn good thing he wasn't going to put her on the grass, because she would certainly fight him for it. She was relieved that he wasn't going to do that because she could only imagine what filth was writhing on the ground.
So, what does he do anyways? He pulls her out onto the yard and places her on the grass! Cat could have yelled and cursed and just said some generally mean things to him, but, surprisingly, when he pinned her down, she lost all urge to do so.
"As long as you're happy..." she trailed off sarcastically, rolling her eyes at him. A small smile crept across her face though. Just a tiny one. "So, what now? I bet you're too afraid to do anything," Catarina challenged, full of self-confidence. The cards were on the table now. The question was if he would fold or deal. If she knew anything about him, he would not let her get away with calling him a coward. He was just too proud and cocky, but it's how Cat got her way. Even without him knowing it!

She wasn’t happy and he was perfectly content to hover over her with his hands pressing down onto her shoulders. The grin still lit up his face and he stayed in a low crouch to be sure that a good amount of pressure was kept on top of her (which really didn’t seem like much despite her size). Eventually he retired his hands and instead simply laid one of his arms out over her instead. He lowered himself a bit more coming down onto his knees so he could look over her face. He cocked his head slightly as she dared to offer him yet another challenge. Instead of getting himself too worked up over the remark Cale just tightened up his smirk letting his confidence show through in any way that it possibly could. In one way he did this, he released her from his hold and instead put his hands on either side of her. He was sure not to touch her at all and give her a chance if she wanted to squirm away. Cale didn’t need to use any words at all to show that he was willing to accept. His answer shone through clearly through his devilish grin and narrowed stare.
He was sure he could scare that smart tone right out of her conscience if he wanted to. That wasn’t really the idea though and he wasn’t much interested in scaring her as much as pissing her off with how wrong she could be. He had scared plenty of grown men just by acting completely enraged in the heat of a fight. When he had wanted something (even if that included just getting away) he would put everything he had to be sure that he got it. Sometimes he had been the one scared though. But Catarina wasn’t exactly frightening, was she? He supposed to everyone else she may have been but to him she was just a girl with a smart mouth who liked to hit every now and then. He didn’t need to cause any physical harm to get his way though. Just sort of… push her here and there.
After he had decided that she had enough time to surrender (even if that may have been only a few seconds), Cale hopped one foot over to the opposite side of her so that he was straddling her. He then leaned forward and gave her another toothy grin before tapping his teeth together in two fast biting motions. He lowered himself with his arms then and let his teeth graze her left check. “And I’ll bet ya can’t resist my charm,” he murmured into her ear putting sharp, sarcastic emphasis on the word charm. “Who’s gonna win that bet?” As he questioned her he dared to plant a firm kiss on the side of her neck, trying to pull her further into his little game. “Can you?” he continued to tease, letting his lips roam up the side of her cheek and then to her ear. “Bet you can’t. No matter how much you want to, I’ll bet you can’t.”
Cale allowed his elbows to gradually buckle and he lowered his body over hers still trying to seduce her. He was never what anyone could label as a “Prince Charming” but that was exactly what usually got him his way situations like this. He was unromantic, rough, and completely uninterested in most emotions when you first allowed yourself introduction to his harsh exterior. And what was it that most girls usually swooned over when they watched movies or television shows? It was always the bad guys. The more emotional turmoil the better (and Cale had yet to understand why considering beyond the point of being at least mildly attractive and maybe a tad more careful with his choice of words). Girls, for some reason, liked the idea of being with someone like him. Someone who they thought needed fixing and they wanted to fix through things like this so that he could show some softer side. They had no idea that life wasn’t Disney. You could never take the beast out of a tormented man. All you could do was learn to love it.
“Wanna say something nasty yet?” he asked her mockingly as he adjusted himself so that he could peer down at her eyes again. He wasn’t interested in giving her an opportunity to answer that though. No, Cale didn’t take any time at all to simply lean back forward and place a not so delicate kiss on her full lips. He let his teeth bare themselves again and play a short game of tug-o-war with her bottom lip. He offered the slightly apology by kissing below it. A brow raised up at her cockily now. “I’ll bet that’s only a little bit of what you’ve been waiting for since prom.” TAGS, CATARINA WORDS, 811 NOTES, HE'S A LITTLE COCKY. SONG, IRIS - GOO GOO DOLLS

If there was anything that Cale couldn't resist, it was a challenge, especially one made by Catarina Luxis. He was easy to manipulate in that aspect. But manipulate was such a harsh word. Cat wasn't trying to get him to do anything for her or anything rash. It was just for some fun. On mutual terms, too.
What was unusual was that Cale was bargaining against her. He was using Cat's own physical intrigue against her. She could do the same against him, though he seemed a little less susceptible to her seduction than she was to his. Well, that was fine. He could keep kissing her and nibbling and do whatever he pleased. Catarina was the queen of composure. She had been all these years without him and she could maintain it now.
Cat closed her eyes shut tight, turning her head ever so slightly away from him as he kissed her neck. When he moved to whisper in her ear, a chill shot up her spine. It caused her eyes to open and peer up at him. She looked almost worried, now, because he was so good at this "game"; however, she wasn't going to lose. It wasn't every day that he dared her to do something (or not to do something, in this case).
He knew too well that Catarina absolutely could not resist his advances, and she was starting to give way, even so early in the game. She was flustered, mostly because her mind told her to stick it out, but the rest of her said to go for it. And he certainly didn't make it any simpler when he kissed her roughly. When he bit her lip, however, it made her snap. She definitely lost it there.
"How did you know? Now, stop talking," she growled. Her jaw tightened in anticipation. However, she didn't give him much time to react. One of her hands reached up, snaking its way into his hair. There, it clenched some of his tresses, but instead of pulling it, she forced his face close to hers again. Catarina turned the tables and locked lips with him; and certainly not gently. Once she had done that, she released him entirely. Her hand fell back by her side.
Cat felt so much better after that. After all, he had deprived her for so long. She gave him a look now, one that encouraged him to try something else. Catarina had lost the game - whatever cruel charade he was trying to trick her into. But now she was free to do as she pleased with him without the thought of losing lingering over her head. It was just sinister to even challenge her to that. Cale was fully aware of what a lecher she could be, she was sure. Otherwise, he wouldn't have even said such a thing.
She wasn't sure if this was the intention of his visit, but what did he expect when he showed up at her house? Catarina enjoyed his company, perhaps a bit too much sometimes, but still, nonetheless enjoyed it. He could have shown up and called her every vile name under the golden sun, but she would have just fantasized about high school or the beach. He could hardly faze her anymore with name-calling, anyways. After his snide "angels" and "princesses," Cat had become immune to his snarky affronts. Besides, she even called herself a bitch quite often, so if he could come with a better word for her, then she would just add that to her list. Either way, Catarina was obviously overjoyed to have him show up at her doorstep.

So she was going with it, that was perfect, that was fine, that was dandy because that had been exactly what he had wanted her to do. But he found himself in the slightest of dilemmas. You see, Cale was very much your typical male and just because he was rather good at forcing himself into these situations without any emotion whatsoever didn’t mean that he wasn’t capable of feeling absolutely nothing… whatsoever. As soon as he had finished with his taunting words Cale had felt a flip in his stomach and the rise in body temperature. He may have been somewhat shallow but he wasn’t so stupid to not understand these physical feelings rushing through him. Cale had never really been much of a person to just go about and throw his body at people in this kind of manner. So, suppose, you could just say that he was a bit surprised of this kind of physical encounter? Yeah, that would be the best way to put it and would probably help explain why he hadn’t let up just yet. Usually he was just fine with taking one shot and then pulling away to leave her completely unhappy and unsatisfied with him. But this time he was also looking to feed his own satisfaction and, lucky him, he knew Catarina wouldn’t be one to stop it since she was much more often worse than he was.
After her hard lip lock, Cale lifted himself up away from her and furrowed his brow. His jaw tightened up and both of his hands had moved to the lawn where his fingers were kept busy gripping the grass. At the moment Cale’s conscience was attempting to butt in and argue against this situation. It wasn’t saying that it was all bad it was just pointing out the obvious things that could go wrong with just letting some hormonal beast take control on a front lawn in the early hours of dawn. And let’s just say he found more problems than mosquitoes bites to encourage to finally leave her flustered or happy with what she had gotten (and hopefully not too itchy from laying in blades of grass for the past few minutes).
Cale leaned down one more time to place a tiny kiss on her lips and then pushed himself up and over her. For a moment he stayed there on the ground with his brow still furrowed and staring straight down at her. “So can I go in your house yet?” he asked her bluntly. “I’ve been driving all night and my ass hurts like a bitch from sitting on it.”
It was a quick jump of subjects and the strain of the force of changing it was only slightly obvious in his voice. Just because he was changing the topic didn’t meant that he really, truly wanted to. He just knew that he needed to and, truth be told, he was pretty much sore as hell from sitting in his truck all night long to get here. And he hadn’t anticipated dragging her out on the lawn to prove a point to her. Not that he was mad… he was just… waiting now, he supposed. Not impatiently or anything… surprisingly.
Finally he ended up pushing himself up off of the ground completely. He didn’t bother with brushing off his knees and instead reached his hand out to help Catarina up if she wanted or needed his help. It was a lazy, nonchalant offer to her and he used to other hand to scruff his hair. His nose wrinkled up with thought. “I wonder if I locked my window…” he murmured to himself mindlessly. “More than likely yeah…” TAGS, CATARINA WORDS, 617 NOTES, SORRY IT'S SHORT, GOING TO WORK. It was funny how, with Cale, Catarina didn't mind where she was or who was looking. Normally, she was all about appearances and impressions; however, she supposed now she was really only trying to impress Cale. Of course, if she hadn't impressed him by now, then she wasn't sure why he was at her house. He had to come for some reason, right?
Cat had absolutely no doubts about any of what they were doing. But she had never been a 'what if' person. At least not when it came to boys. It seemed like Cale was having some internal difficulties, though. There was definitely some turmoil on his face and in his actions. It baffled her as to why, but she decided not to say anything. If there was some inner conflicts with himself, well, then there wasn't much she could do anyways.
She was a bit disappointed when he pulled away from her, but she wasn't honestly surprised. He always set her up and then never went through with it. It was a sick and twisted torture. And it never seemed to end. Sometimes she just wanted to get up and walk away when he did things like this, because she knew she would get riled up only to be let down. However, she suppose she did enjoy the kissing and whatnot.
Catarina watched Cale with hard eyes. They only narrowed at him when he looked down at her. She made it apparent that she was not happy. Her mouth remained shut still, though. Her features didn't budge, not even after he kissed her again. She knew that stupid ploy.
Her stoic pose budged for a moment, only to roll her eyes at him when he asked if he could go in the house. Her tongue writhed against her cheek, dying to spit some filthy words at him. Cat, somehow, managed to keep it on lock down. And God only knew how difficult that was for her.
As Cale stood up and extended a hand to her, cold teal eyes stared at him for a moment before she finally reached out to accept his offer. Cat got to her feet with his help; however, she refused to acknowledge him with any thanks. "Yeah, you can go in my house," she returned sternly and, obviously, with discontent.
She tried not to be too upset because she didn't want this to end badly, but, damn, he always did this. Of course, she should have learned her lesson a long time ago. But this wasn't about her learning! It was about Cale and how he was always leading her on. It just wasn't very nice.
Catarina made a point of walking into the house, leaving the door open for Cale, but she could have very well slammed it shut. That wouldn't seem so inviting, though, and she was trying to be as polite as she could without going into overdrive. Besides, he should have known she wouldn't be happy if he left her like that.
The front door conveniently opened into the den, so Cat was able to collapse herself onto the sofa in frustration. She found the remote to the rather colossal television hanging on the wall opposite of the sofa hidden between the cushions and pressed the power button. The t.v. flickered on to reveal that she had still had the channel on the Food Network. Probably because her father was on there once, and she hadn't watched television since.
Cat laid down, but bundled herself up, bringing her knees close to her and placing her hands beneath her head. She seemed extremely focused on some man grilling or something, but she was actually very intent on listening for Cale to come through the threshold. She could only assume that he would be in a bitter mood since she had sort of stormed off, but that's why she decided to pick a cozy spot alone so he could cool off if he had to.

She had seemed less than thrilled with him then. Alright, so it was actually way less than thrilled with him. Her eyes had narrowed in as soon as he had offered her help and she made no move to show any gratitude toward the fact that he was here, had been in enough of a chipper mood to play a few games with her, and had helped her up off of the ground. In the instant that she was half off the ground he had thought about just letting go and dropping her. But he didn’t. Cale let her huff away with her quick reply, only furrowing his own brows in disdain as he turned his neck to watch her stalk off back into her house. Cale mimicked her eye roll, moving his lips softly to mock her words and get out any frustrations that he felt toward her less than pleasant attitude toward him.
He trailed after her, closing the door and turning the lock behind him before completely entering the room. He stood there at a safe distance, close to the doorway, eyeing her almost impatiently. Okay, completely impatiently. He wasn’t sure if he should label her sudden temper as childish or not considering he wasn’t really well known for acting very mature in these sorts of situations. Even now his ego was trying to convince him to do something… stupid. Like say something extremely stupid and shallow but fortunately his tongue was running short of smart replies to give to her. So Cale remained quiet in the entrance to the den for a few moments, keeping his glare over at her but not really looking for any kind of reaction. It was just sort of a thing to make himself feel slightly accomplished. Like he had done something about it even though he hadn’t. It was kind of pathetic but it did make him feel al little better.
Finally his figure moved away from where he had been standing for the last minute or so and he oh so slowly walked across her line of vision making sure to take his time as he took in the surroundings. Eventually he plopped down at the opposite end of the couch and leaned over against the arm so he could rest his chin in the palm of his hand. He then let out a quick, loud sigh and let the features on his face relax, as though they had already had a really rough day. His eyes half shut as he stared at the television wondering how in the hell somebody could sit here and watch television shows about food all day long or even for a few minutes. It was especially unappetizing when you weren’t even hungry. He glanced over toward Cat.
“Really?” he murmured to her, looking extremely bored with her. He cocked one brow and shrugged his shoulder, turning back away from her to stare at whatever mess of a platter this chef was throwing together. It looked over decorated and far too bizarre for Cale’s liking. But he supposed some people liked fancy things like that. Fancy food with too many tastes or too many things you had to pick off since it really didn’t taste that good at all and was mostly show. Eh, but what did he know about cooking? He could do it and he would do it when needed but it wasn’t like he was some top class chef mixing together radiant meals for people every day of his life. That sounded extremely dull to do for your entire lifetime. Where was the excitement in making food?
Cale wasn’t too worried about pissing Catarina off. For starters, she was already pissed off at him and he doubted there would be any going back unless he just threw himself at her and let her have her way with him. He really doubted that would be a good idea though. He wouldn’t want things to get too carried away. They had only just come to terms what… a month ago… a week ago… he couldn’t remember to be completely honest but he was sure it wasn’t a good plan of action. Then there was also the fact that Cat would more than likely just get mad at him for something else. He was completely used to that and he knew very well that he wasn’t too concerned with it.
So, with all of that heavy on his mind, Cale removed himself from the couch then and started out of the room now relying on his memory to guide his feet in the right direction. He found the stairs, followed them up, and eventually found the spot that he assumed was her bedroom as it did have a bed and was decorated in a way that he could see Cat decorating a room. Not to mention, most of the things seemed untouched from his memory of it. And, in the end, if it wasn’t her room and just some random guest room then that was fine. It still had a bed and he was still going to use it since Cat was in a foul mood and that had put him in a shit mood.
Cale slid his boots and socks off and then peeled the blue shirt from his body and tossed it over next to his other things. He pulled his wallet from his back pocket then and set it on the nightstand along with his keys (secretly praying to himself that Cat wouldn’t have any interest in taking them out of spite). Once he felt ready enough he turned off the light switched, opened a window, and fell back into the bed. He laid on his back with his eyes half shut, staring at the open door. He was feeling a bit sour. After that long drive this was how he got treated? Yeah, he’d be kind of bitter about it for the rest of the night, he was sure. But that was her loss. If she didn’t want to be nice to him while they were in the same country then so be it. He’d just go back home in the morning and start the routine over again. He was good at ignoring problems anyways. TAGS, CATARINA WORDS, 1,045 NOTES, THERE. SONG, IRIS - GOO GOO DOLLS

Truth is, Catarina did feel a bit guilty about getting such a bad attitude with Cale. But in her defense, he always did that to her, whether it was to annoy her or just because he had second thoughts. Shouldn't it be different now? Or was she just assuming too much?
It wasn't difficult to hear Cale enter her home. However, he did become silent for a few moments, causing Cat to think he had gone to another part of the house. It bothered her to think of what he might do to all the expensive items in her home, as he tended to be a violent person. But, luckily, he moved into her vision and took a seat on the couch with her. They were both silent for some time, until Cale decided to give her a sadistic, little comment. She supposed it was either on the channel she was watching or because she had give him such a poor taste of behavior. Cat assumed, by the expression on his face, that he meant the cooking show. She wasn't exactly amused either, but it was better than trying to patch things up. Neither of them were very good at that.
Catarina wasn't surprised to see Cale remove himself from the sofa now. It was probably as arduous for him as it was for her to keep from hissing venomous taunts at each other. Truthfully, she wasn't as upset with him now as she was upset with him then. All those times when he would tease her tended to show themselves and add fuel to the fire.
There was a tumultuous feeling in Cat's stomach, one such feeling that she didn't often experience. It was like a mixture of being stabbed repeatedly and having the wounds dressed with salt. Such a livid sense, she was glad it didn't happen often. Normally when she did receive this type of feeling, she had no clue how to fix it, but, strangely enough, she knew how to manage it this time. Or at least attempt to.
Catarina, with much effort, pushed herself off of the couch. She didn't want to go upstairs and find Cale, nor did she want to apologize. It was an unnatural occurrence in Catarina's nature. Unfortunately, she had to do all of those things; otherwise, the toil in her stomach would wear a hole in her insides. Cat begrudgingly began to walk toward the stairs. There, she looked up at them and realized it would be the longest flight of stairs she would ever walk. One painful step at a time, she began her trek up toward, what felt like, the lion's den. She knew she had started all of this, but Cale's temper tended to be more rash than her own.
The journey up the stairs felt like an eternity of climbing to no avail. It almost surprised Catarina when she finally reached the second floor. As it turned out, finding Cale was the easy objective. He had claimed her room and her bed. She didn't really mind, as long as he wasn't sleeping nude or something. That had to be the most disgusting thing she could think of. Even in her own bed, she wouldn't do that.
Cat stood in the doorway a moment, as if she were awaiting to be summoned into the room, but then she realized it was her own anyways. It was difficult deciphering her room in the darkness, but there were silhouettes of her bed, among other objects. There was obviously someone on her shadowy bed, that someone being Cale. As humorous as she found it would be to smack him, she had come here to apologize or some stupid crap like that.
She moved toward the bed, still hesitant on admitting she was in the wrong. Catarina placed her hands on either of Cale's shoulders as she pulled herself on top of him briefly. She situated herself into straddling him, but leaned back away from him. She removed her hands from his shoulders now, resting them instead on her thighs. Cat let forth a long-thought-out, withdrawn sigh.
Her eyes were looking down at him now, which was somewhat out-of-place. "Cale, I'm sorry," she began sincerely as she moved to hover over him. "I should be grateful that you're here, not... well, bitchy." Cat was not the best with kind words. They were very genuine, though, and she hoped that they weren't taken for granted. Because, even though she had apologized, her stomach continued in writhe and would do so until he accepted her sorry.
She remained, meanwhile, in the same position over him, except with her hands at his sides now. She was very much tempted to lean down and kiss him, but that was probably too bold a move if he was still angry. Besides, she liked for him to kiss her, not the other way around. Not that she didn't enjoy kissing him in general, it was just better when he did it.

His eyes would lazily fall shut every few moments, trying to invite him to the comfort sleep rather than the realities of life. But, unfortunately for Cale he was never one to be able to give into the enticing hands of sleep so quickly. Instead his sea blue eyes continued to survey their surroundings in slow sweeps. At first all he could make out were dark shadows and soft glares from smooth surfaces but as his eyes adjusted to the dimly lit room dark shapes started to turn into actual objects. Still, everything looked like it was in black and white but the change in his eyes did manage to make him feel more awake because o f the new information clicking around in his brain.
He wasn't as bothered anymore. Some part of him in his stomach felt more sad than angry now. It was sad because of the effort he had put into this and it was sad because he obviously could never win whatever constant battle was raging between himself and Catarina. It was a nonstop war, he felt. He wasn't really blaming her completely for it either (even though that would be a much more comforting thought than thinking that he was a problem) because he knew that he had an amazing knack at pissing her off. He also knew that he sometimes like to purposely press those buttons to get those overdramatic responses out of her. Who could really blame him though? Sometimes getting your way answering Catarina all flustered because of it was totally worth it! It came with a price though and that price was her rage for the century or so. He had taken note sometime during their high school years that Cat was not always so forgiving towards though who embarrassed her or made it so she could not have her way. Cale could always make both happen.
The bedroom grew a little darker when a figure moved into the doorway and blocked out the little flow of light that was sparkling through. It instantly threw off Cale's night vision and Catarina was nothing but a tall, skinny shadow in the door. As she came over to him his eyes started to readjust and open fully so that he could stare up at her. He felt a very sudden and almost urgent urge to protect himself, but he forced himself to relax as much as he could and just stare up toward her blankly.
Her face was a gray shadow as she climbed up onto him and made herself comfortable sitting on his waist. Cale continued to simply stare up at her and wait to see what she wanted. He was getting the idea that maybe she wasn't here to try and destroy any part of body but instead be... Maybe nice or just tell him nasty things. He could deal with that, he supposed. He just didn't want to get hit in any... delicate places. She eventually did speak but her words were not harsh or filled with the venom that so often leaked from her mouth, instead Catarina came offering him an apology. It was such a strange thing that it did not even click all the way at first leaving the room very quiet for a time. Finally, Cale tried to rouse his tired brain to make sense of this and he pressed eyes shut brushing the backs of his hands over them. "Huh?"
Cale removed his hands from his eyes, looking a little more disturbed now that he was escaping the tiredness. But now he was sure that he was either dreaming or shrews trying to trick him into something. Both assumptions were short lived though and a truly thoughtful look crossed over Cale's face. He turned his head away, staring over toward the wall now.
"Everyone I know these days is having kids," he explained, rolling his shoulders to pull himself up on the pillow a bit. He kept his eyes away from her though, looking again somewhat disgusted. But then Cale got a very matter-of-fact look on his face. "And I have no intentions of jumping on that wagon." then a he looked up at her with a bitter, little smirk on his lips. "Let's just say I didn't come here prepared to keep myself out of that problem. And I might be paranoid." TAGS, CATARINA WORDS, 727 NOTES, DONE AT WORK. x) SONG, IRIS - GOO GOO DOLLS

Catarina wasn't sure if his words meant that he forgave her, but she only assumed that they did. And like a flash of lightning, the turmoil in her gut had subsided. Like the eye of a storm. It was such a relief, because if she had to go to sleep feeling like that, she might as well just stay awake. Her dreams would probably haunt her more than her consciousness.
What he said, though, made a pretty deep impact on her. She did know quite a few people with a kid, her best friend being one. But that wasn't what affected her most. She was thinking about what it might be like if she did have a kid. A sweet, beautiful boy. That's what she wanted, but hearing Cale speak about a child with a negative connotation made her somewhat sad. Catarina automatically assumed he never wanted one. It wasn't like she had ever thought about a kid with Cale - that was like suicide - but now she was. Though they weren't technically in a relationship.
Cat hid her distress by smiling warmly down at him. "Yeah, I get it. A kid would be awful," she told him, the same transparent smirk still on her face. However, she removed herself from her position on his hips. She moved to the other side of the bed, sitting cross-legged on her pillow. As she sat over there, she tried not to look too ashamed of the thoughts she was having, but she couldn't help but feel bad.
There was just something enticing to Catarina about having a child. Perhaps it was carrying on the Luxis blood or just sharing that sort of bond. Cat knew she was always somewhat jealous of Sarah and Gabriel. She never went anywhere without him, and Sarah always talked about how much she loved him. But she also knew how depressed Sarah had become after he was born. And how sheepish she had become. Cat didn't know what it was, but he had really struck a nerve.
Catarina pushed her legs under her comforter, then slowly slid the rest of her body underneath it. She rested her head on the pillow she had been sitting on previously. At first, she was turned away from Cale, staring blankly at the wall across from her. For a few moments, that's exactly what she did. Then she finally turned herself around to face him. She wanted to tell him what was on her mind, but that would seem sort of... odd. Cat wasn't the mothering or nurturing type.
Well, she supposed it would go away after awhile. If she just ignored it. There was nothing creepier than wanting to have a kid, right? It was completely out of the question. Besides, she lived in France and he lived in America. What kind of life would that be? Catarina had to assure herself that a child would only be pure Hell on her, Cale, and the kid itself. Certainly.
"I hope you don't mind me sleeping here also, as it is my bed," she commented, with a bit of snide sarcasm. With that, she faced away from him again, closing her eyes almost immediately. She tried to shut out any thoughts that tried to penetrate her mind. They always loved to raid her brain right as she was trying to sleep. It drove her mad.

It felt strangely good to get that out into the open. Now she wouldn’t have to hover around thinking that he had purely just had the idea of just trying to piss her off the entire time. Catarina now knew the answer to his hesitance and he was wondering why he had not just come out with it to begin with. It actually wasn’t that hard being honest about it at all! He was sure Cat of all people would understand his concerns and she obviously didn’t have any way of trying to help prevent the possibilities of children so they would just have to keep their temptations to a minimum. It wasn’t even really that big of a deal for Cale, so he thought. He was good at letting his mind either wander or get stuck on something that made him mad rather than excited. Not to mention he just laying there in the dark was making him… not so in the mood to be any more active than he already was at that very moment.
Cale offered a grin back with furrowed brows, almost expecting her to add a few more malicious things about kids. She definitely had never in his time of knowing her seemed like a kid friendly kind of girl. She had always been somewhat (okay a lot) self-centered and never had any interest in dealing with anything that involved too much time, effort, or work. She liked the life of luxury and intended on living just that for as long as she possibly could, he was sure. A child would get in the way of that conquest without any doubt. Not to mention neither of them honed any amazing parental instincts. Catarina was in no way motherly and you never saw her flocking over to someone’s baby and saying how adorable it was or asking if she could hold it. Then there was him. Cale didn’t even have any younger cousins to show him the ropes of children and he had never wanted to have to cater to some little person all day long for the rest of his life until he died. That sort of responsibility was not something Cale was sure he could handle now or ever. He didn’t know the first thing about playing daddy anyways.
When she climbed off of him he felt relieved. She was angry and she had said nothing more about it. It wasn’t completely in character for her to just drop something so easily or try to not find some kind of horrid solution (that would most likely end in him doing something stupid or being a dick), but Cale was mostly blissfully unaware for the moment. He had successfully derailed an argument by simply being honest! Well, in truth, she had probably put in a bit more effort than he had since she had actually come to apologize to him but it was still some progress, wasn’t it? He figured that was reason enough to go to sleep feeling somewhat happy.
Again Cale found himself turning his head in the direction of the wall. Now he felt strange. The two of them were just… sleeping? They weren’t arguing about something? Cale wasn’t trudging down the stairs onto the sofa yet? Catarina wasn’t being obnoxious and trying to move him in any way? Everything was fine? He wasn’t really sure what to feel about this. Then he heard her comment and smirked a bit. Okay, so maybe everything was going to be alright. Maybe it wasn’t going to be exactly how it always had been but things were going to be… okay, he supposed. Cale’s eyes sprang open then and he tilted his head back in her direction. “’Ey,” he said tapping the back of her head with his palm. “One of my old roommates just had a kid and named her Catharina. He asked if it was like my girlfriend’s name or not.” Then he smirked to himself. “I told him yours was actually spelled more like catastrophe.
